The key objective of this program is to better equip and train volunteers to save lives and protect property in unprotected or inadequately protected rural areas. Grant recipients are selected based on vulnerability and adequacy of existing fire protection. In reviewing applications, the bureau placed priority on applications seeking funds for projects that included purchasing wildfire-suppression equipment and protective clothing.

Family Owned Bart Township Dairy Farm

$270,188

PennVest, the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority approved a grant in the amount of $270,188 for a Bart Township, Lancaster County, Dairy Farm. The money will be used to construct a manure storage facility that will help alleviate runoff from the dairy operation into Meetinghouse Creek.
                     



Family Owned Farm in Strasburg

Community Energy for the Keystone Solar Project

$1.75 million

The Keystone Solar Project will be the first utility-scale solar project in Pennsylvania.  Producing six megawatts of solar power, the solar farm will generate approximately 8,000 MWhs of clean, fuel-free electricity a year — enough to power over 950 homes from this single solar field.  The project will be located in East Drumore Township.<o:p></o:p>

Funding secured for Fire and EMS Departments in the 100th District under the 2008-09 Volunteer Fire Company and Volunteer Ambulance Service Grant. 

Providence Township

$43,687 

For the purchase and installation of a wood gasification biomass boiler to heat two township buildings.  The total project cost is $87,374, with Providence Township paying the remaining cost of the boiler acquisition and installation costs. 

Jay and Andrea Sensenig

 $575,000

To construct an anaerobic digester at the Sensenig Family Farm in Britain Township, Lancaster County.  The anaerobic digester will help with nutrient management and the generation of electricity for the dairy farm.  The total project cost is $1,150,000, with the Sensenigs providing $575,000 in matching funds.

Strasburg Railroad

 $1 Million

Track construction and rehabilitation, rail bridge rehabilitation and expanded transferring capabilities to improve freight operations.

I also wrote a letter of support to release $5 million to the PA Railroad Museum for funds that were approved by the Governor in the RCAP budget in 2003.  The funds were released in 2007.
